JACK PLEDGE CONCERT

American born Singer/Songwriter/Guitar Master lived in Australia for around thirty five years but in just the last few years he has returned his homeland.

He usually comes back to Australia on an annual basis to see his grandchildren, catch up with friends and also to have the opportunity of performing to Australian audiences.

With this in mind we are putting on a special "In House" (well In Shed really) concert on Friday 19th November 2018 - starting around 7.00pm

We do ask that our guests bring their own nibbles and drinks.  We have put a cost of $10.00 per head onto this concert which of course will go entirely to Jack.

If you would like to come please send us an email  naradreaming519@gmail.com and contact us through Nara Dreaming Facebook Page.

NINTH ANNUAL

NARA DREAMING EXHIBITION

2018

Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th June

Sadly this year's Nara Dreaming Exhibition comes to an end this weekend.  It has been highly successful this year with lots of wonderful people taking the time out of the heavy schedules to come and visit us and have a look.  So many people have helped us in many ways - Kathy Maher made the jam for the Devonshire Tea, Ken Jones shared his bush poetry and yarn spinning with many of our visitors, some people even brought us FOOD!   Others purchased from our high quality art work.  A big thankyou to everyone

We drew our raffle just before we closed at 4.00pm on Sunday 3rd.  The winners were:

Brenda Stevens-Chambers won the crocheted dog which she had really hoped she might win

Patrick Curtis won the 3CD set of Anne Conway Cd's

Lyn Griffin won Patrick Curtis wooden bowl

Val Annear won Robyn Davis print

Gayle Mitchell won a set of cards from Anne Conway

Robyn Howells won the Tongue Drum donated by Colin Wylie

Friday 1st June 2018

We had two groups in today.  Firstly the children from Lockwood South Primary School (all 31 of them - the whole school) and some of their teachers.  The children enjoyed their time with us and we gave them a presentation which they enjoyed.  Ken Jones also kept them entertained with some bush poetry and yarn spinning.

In the afternoon we had the local chapter "Fun After Fifty" of Red Hat Ladies visit us for Devonshire Tea and the Nara Dreaming Experience.  They too were entertained by Ken Jones but the material was a little different to what the children heard in the morning.

Wednesday 30th May 2018

What a wonderful day today was - full on but wonderful.  In the morning we had 40 children from the Lockwood Primary School visit and in the afternoon we had a group of staff from DHHS.  Ken Jones also entertained the children with some bush poetry and yarn spinningVery tired by end of day but hapy.

Tuesday 29th May 2018

We had a lovely morning today hosting a group of residents from Bethlehem Home for the Aged.  The ladies thought the Shed was amazing and loved the art.  We loved having them with us

Sunday 27th May 2018

What a wondeful day today turned out to be at Nara Dreaming.  Ann and Dennis Murray from Dingo Care in Lake Boga visited and brought Bunjil and Kora.  We lost count of devonshire teas and people who came but it was all wonderful and our guests loved the opportunity to learn about Dingo's and meet Bunjil and Kora and have their photos taken if they wished.  Here are just a couple of photos of the day - there are many more on our Facebook page.

Thursday 24th May 2018

Nara Dreaming Exhibition not open to public today but please get in touch if you have any queries.

Will be open again 10.00am on Saturday 26th May.

Wednesday 23rd May 2018

Exhibition wasn't actually open today but by virtue of our web page and facebook we made some really good sales today.  Including this painting "Circle of Life" by Robyn Davis.

If anyone would like a catalogue emailed to them please just send a request to naradreaming519@gmail.com

Tuesday 22nd May 2018

A most enjoyable day was had today by all concerned.  We had the Elders Group from Bendigo and District Aboriginal Co-operative come for morning tea and they were also entertained by Bush Poet/Yarn Spinner Ken Jones.  We also had two other small groups.

One of the paintings that sold today was this one "Let's Be

      Friends by Christine Arnott

  Sunday 20th May 2018

We had a lovely day today with a steady flow of people all day.  Made some more sales but more importantly made some new friends around the fire and over a cuppa.

One of the paintings sold today was Brenda Stevens-Chambers painting "Koala's Are Cool"

I sold this photograph at our Opening Night - It is a collage of three

dingo puppies from the 2017 season.  I called it Dingo Trouble Times Three however in retrospect

I should have called it Dingo Mischief Times Three.  This photograph will be going to Queensland as a gift for a person who loves dingoes

Saturday 19th May 2018

Today was a chilled sort of a day after having been so busy installing the exhibition and getting everything ready.  Today we could relax.  We probably had around 30 visitors today which was great as we had time to answer any questions and offer them a cup of tea/coffee if they wanted to sit down and enjoy the fire for a while.

Friday 18th May 2018

We had a record number of people attend our Opening Night - somewhere between 80 and 90 people.  It was a little bit crowded but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.  We had a lovely supper too.  We made some good sales but of course all the works will stlil be there till 3rd June.  We will be open from 10.00 - 4.00 this weekend and then the next two weekends and also open during the week if we get bookings which we already do have some.

Tuesday 15th May

Here is some bio information on one of our new (to Nara Dreaming) artists Brenda Stevens-Chambers

Monday 14th May 2018

Due to the loss of a close friend and the need to be supportive, Samantha James will not be exhibiting at Nara Dreaming this year.  We wish her all the best as she reaches out to be of some comfort.

Sunday 13th May 2018

Monday 7th May 2018

We found out just yesterday that one of our artists Christine Arnott had been the subject of a short infomovie with regards to medical advances.  As you will see from the movie we are very fortunate to have Christine with us at all - she is one brave lady and an excellent artist as well.  Click on the link to view the movie - it only goes for three and a half minutes or so and is well worth watching.  It does say "Melbourne" but the outdoor scenes in which Christine features were shot here in Bendigo at Lake Weeroona and Rosalind Park

Click on this link to view film - if it doesn't load copy and paste it into your browser and then it should work

Sunday 6th May 2018

Most of our artists got together for a social afternoon this afternoon at Bill's Shed.  It was wonderful with several never having met before but before long they were talking like old friends.  Note the bare redgum walls which this time next week will be a blaze of colour from all the beautiful artwork.

Yes - Nara Dreaming is happening again in 2018.  We had considered resting it this year but people were horified at that suggestion and when we think about it SO WERE WE.

We have nearly finalised our artists for this year.  As always we had more artists wanting to exhibit than we have space to do so and we had to make some hard calls.  We should be able to let you know who is exhibiting with us this year within the next fortnight.

Our exhibition will open at 6.30pm on Friday 18th May (along with wine and supper) and will run through until Sunday 3rd June.  At this stage we will only open on weekends unless we get bookings.  We already have a group booking for Friday 1st June so we will be open that day.  Opening hours are from 10.00 - 4.00pm

On Sunday 27th May we will have our friendly dingoes visiting at around 2.00pm  Come along and meet them and learn about this beautiful but misunderstood creatures.

Nara Dreaming 2017

Nara Dreaming 2017 finished on a high on Sunday 4th June 2017.  It was successful on all levels - sales although initially slow certainly gained momentum over the last weekend, we had a steady flow of people coming out to visit - some lovely groups in for Morning/Afternoon tea and met some great new people and spent time with old friends.

Thank you so much to all who helped us - the media and in particular Phoenix FM, our friends who gave us "hands on help" when we needed it and the public who supported us

Our 2017 Exhibition was opened on Friday 19th May 2017 in the middle of a terrible storm but that did not deter the faithful.  We had a good number of people present and

made a number of sales.   Our first weekend was also well patronised with a steady stream of people coming through.

Eighth Annual Nara Dreaming Exhibition

We have set out dates for the 2017 Nara Dreaming Exhibition.  The Exhibition will be opened by City of Greater Bendigo Councillor, Rod Fyffe at 6.30pm on Friday 19th May 2017 and will then run from 10.00am on Saturday and Sunday for the next three weekends - closing on Sunday 4th June 2017.

Our Opening Night is always a lovely affair - the wood fire, the wine, the food, the music, the company and of course the art itself. Once again Kathy Maher will be creating a lovely ambience with her guitar.  We usually find that people do not want to leave and stay until late and that is great

We are available during the week for group bookings please contact us to enquire and/or make your booking.

Devonshire Tea and Bush Tucker afternoon/morning tea will be available to groups or individuals.  To make a booking or an enquiry please contact us through our "Contact Us" tab.

The Nara Dreaming Exhibition is the manifestation of an ambition held by a small group of Central Victorian  visual and performing artists to bring together a cross-cultural exhibition featuring various mediums including painting, photography, sculpture and craft work.

The Exhibition is held on a private property “Avisford” 1023 Calder Alternative Highway Lockwood in a purpose built rustic venue colloquially named (Bills Shed).

Significantly the exhibition runs through Reconciliation Week and that is how we see ourselves “Reconciliation in Action” without the meetings, the lectures, the polarisation – just a group of people who are getting along just fine and working side by side.

Our core group of artists stays the same each year – Robyn Davis (Aboriginal Artist),, Bill Whitbread (photography), Trina Dalton Oogjes (Aboriginal Artist) and Anne Conway (usually photography)  each year we invite new artists into the exhibition to keep it fresh and diverse.

We are currently in the process of confirming this year’s artist roster – some great talent coming up!

We are probably a little different to most exhibitions in that we do not focus on one genre or medium but like to exhibit across the board – from painting to woodwork, photography, sculptor – the list goes on.

Each year we raise money for  New Horizons Welfare Services (Anglican Diocese of Bendigo).

You may like to go to our Facebook Page or our web site www.naradreaming.com.au to get a better idea of what we are about.

Our Vision

In the words of Kev Carmody “From Little Things Big Things Grow” and we are hoping that The Nara Dreaming Exhibition will become an integral part of Bendigo’s artistic calendar over the coming years.  In 2016  we had our seventh successful exhibition.  Over time we would hope to expand to include more events  artists and performers, showcasing them in a unique, rustic setting and celebrating Australia’s unique culture.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for any further information you may require.

We are in the process of sourcing our artists for this year.  At the moment it is just our core group but that will change over the following months as we look at the applications we have received. We would love to have many more artists and we do rotate each year but of course are limited by space.
