I began my journey into the world of glass in 2008 with an introductory class in glass fusing. Since then I have continued to explore new techniques involving the manipulation of hot and cold glass. Many of these involve multi-step processes both within and outside the kiln. My work is continually evolving through the application and combination of these various methods. Currently I am focused on integrating hand pulled murrini with glass strips to produce pieces that are both functional and visually appealing.
At times glass can be a challenging medium to work with as it can produce unexpected results. Working from my home-based studio in Moulamein NSW, I begin with sheets of glass that are cut then reassembled to create glass designs. The project is kiln fired to form a solid piece of glass that is cold worked before placing into a mould to shape the finished piece. Every form of glass can be incorporated into a project from sheets through to powders meaning there is little wastage. The allure of kiln formed glass is that it cannot be duplicated making each artwork unique.
